DNA Skin Aging analyzes certain genes whose variants are responsible for the genetic predisposition to premature skin aging. It provides information related to the quality of collagen fibers that make up the supporting framework of our tissues.
In fact, certain genetic variants may increase the risk, compared with the average for the general population, that fibroblasts will produce collagen fibers of poor quality, that is, altered in structure. Therefore, in the presence of these unfavorable polymorphisms, the skin is less resistant to the intrinsic causes of aging and more susceptible to environmental insults (sunlight, smoke, drugs, poor diet, etc.) with a tendency to premature aging.
The test also offers information related to remodeling of the dermal matrix with particular reference to the presence of genetic characteristics that may predispose to increased metalloproteinase enzyme activity. Such enzymes result in destructive remodeling of extracellular dermal proteins such as collagen, elastin, and proteoglycans resulting in accelerated skin aging.
Individual susceptibility to inflammation, oxidative stress and glycation, pivotal processes of cellular aging, is also analyzed.
Finally, personalized suggestions and recommendations regarding foods to prefer and avoid and lifestyle to adopt emerge.
With the contribution of the Skin Aging test, the physician/Longevity Expert, in relation to the overall clinical picture, can plan a tailor-made dietary and preventive regimen and recommend personalized pathways of supplementation and/or advanced aesthetic medicine and/or aesthetics tailored to specific needs.
